Everyone really loves freedom, we wish we can just do what we like without severe monitoring from anyone, but that in itself is not freedom. When the word freedom is mentioned, the first thing that cuts across the minds of people is the period of bondage, servitude, suffering and all that, but people haven’t taken time to consider the true cost of freedom, very many people don’t prepare for freedom.
Freedom is so costly, that it should take a lot of time for conscious preparation, preparation for freedom could be years, months, or just as long as it takes, but it rarely crosses the mind of people, all they dream of or imagine is how sweet and pleasant freedom is.
Taking a peek into history, both in bible times and our contemporary times, we can clearly see freedom has been totally messed up and most people even wish they went back into the so called slavery because of the extent of the damage the freedom has caused. The point is, freedom not prepared for is catastrophic and people fall into the same trap again and again.
Freedom in my own little understanding is accepting to take full responsibility of the challenges that lies ahead and being matured enough to navigate solutions for them, I know you may be asking at this point what I really mean, just go straight to the point, what are you talking about, some may ask?
For the single ladies and guys just about getting married, most of them gush over the freedom to finally live together with their spouse, many don’t consider the cost of the freedom and six months down the line, reality begins to dawn on them, oh! Maybe you are not in that shoes.
Do you remember how you gushed over the freedom of leaving the school (secondary school, university and particularly N.Y.S.C), just 2 months after NYSC , reality begins to dawn, do you know some people really wish the alowee never ends?
Lets face reality, the children of Israel spent 430 years in captivity , bondage and severe torture from their master Pharaoh, after the gruesome experience, can you ever believe the Israelites will wish they go back to slavery just few moments after being delivered from their oppressor, but they did! Read your bible, they blamed Moses their leader for bringing the whole idea of freedom , they were plain Mad at Moses, why will you allow us to suffer in the wilderness? at least we could have been enjoying garlic and ginger in Egypt. This is actually terrible to Imagine, but the point is, they were only enduring the servitude, they never prepared for freedom, the cost of freedom was just too much for them to bear, well! If you say, that’s the Israelites , I cannot do that, then you really need to understand something right now, take it as a principle and let it never leave you alone “ people are the same in every generation”, they respond to situation same way in similar circumstances, the bible explained to us, the things written afore times are written for our learning, that we through the comfort of scriptures might have hope, that simply means, take the scriptures and learn , because people don’t learn, they repeat same mistakes made in history again and again.
Just like the Israelites, it doesn’t matter the years of suffering , servitude, enduring , bondage or being under authority, there need to be a preparation for freedom, and please, kindly note, preparation and agitation are not the same thing, agitation is not equal to preparation, without preparation, freedom becomes a burden, count the cost before you request for freedom.
