Sometimes I wonder why change is very difficult ? I have seen people experience things that naturally will make me believe they can never get into that kind of mess again, yet, they fall in again and again. At that time of that mess, you could really see the sincerity of their heart to change but like the bible says, “ the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak”.
The problem then is not with the Spirit of the man but with the flesh, the flesh needs to be empowered to stay away from that dirty habit, the flesh needs to be empowered to overcome the lust, addiction, fornication, greed and much more.
This is where my emphasis is today, many believers have not experienced realistic change in their lives because they think its something that just comes with being born again. Praise God, I am born again they say, old things are passed away, all things have become new. The person that fornicated is not me, its my past, the person that stole and did all the bad stuffs is my past, its not me. They even put this scripture to back it, forgetting things that are behind, I press forward (Phil. 4:13).
While all these scriptures are true, most people run with it at the surface without understanding contextually what the bible is saying, listen to me people, there is a balance in this, you do not need to dwell on the past, but you need to reflect on the past, dig into it so well, that it brings you godly sorrow that leads to repentance, the haste to leave the events of the past behind makes a lot of people immature for the future. They don’t know how to handle the new life ahead of them because the transition was too fast.
We need to come into the new life of Christ will full consciousness of the what we left behind, repentance is not about a change of religion or change of denomination but a realization with full consciousness of your wretchedness in sin and how Christ has washed you completely.
Many people have not drawn treasures from their past, a lot don’t realize your mess in the past is suppose to be your message in the future ( in Christ), its not something you forget completely but it remains fresh in your memory, you tell people, this is what Jesus delivered me from, 10 years after, I am still free.
Without a proper reflection of the past, people fall into the same vomit again and again, if you cannot confidently share your story of the past to people now that you are Christ, its an indication some elements of the past is still manifesting and the guilt is eating up your heart.
The past is not really gone in the full context, its actually history and the best compass for the future is history, if God doesn’t want us to know about the past, the bible would have been a story of perfect people without no flaws, God would have removed the flaws of men like David so we can believe he was just a spotless king.
The biggest problem is our flesh not our spirit, that means our biggest asset is the discipline to stay faithful in the race, we need to keep telling ourselves the truth so we can be free internally and tell others also the truth so we can be free externally.
God bless you
